Re-Conditioning Work

Reconditioning a marine engine’s cylinder head is a precise, multi-step process that restores OEM performance and reliability. It includes complete disassembly, thorough cleaning to remove carbon and contaminants, and pressure testing to identify cracks or leaks. The head is then machined to restore flatness, and critical components—valves, valve seats, and valve guides—are refurbished or replaced as required. Key operations include surface grinding, valve-seat regrinding, valve and guide replacement, and leak checks to ensure a perfect combustion-chamber seal. The result is optimal engine efficiency, stable operation, and extended component life.

What We Recondition

  • Disassembly & Inspection

Controlled removal of the cylinder cover (hydraulic tools as required). Detailed inspection for cracks, fretting, erosion, and wear.

  • Cleaning & Preparation

Thorough de-carbonizing and de-rusting of all components. Surface preparation for accurate measurements and machining.

  • Machining & Restoration

Surface grinding to restore flatness and sealing integrity. Valve seat regrinding for correct contact and heat transfer. Component refurbishment/replacement (valves, guides, seals) to OEM spec

  • NDT & Pressure Testing

Ultrasonic testing (UT) to detect sub-surface cracks and anomalies. Pressure/leak testing to confirm sealing of combustion and cooling passages.

  • Reassembly & Installation

Precision torquing, clearances set as per maker’s data. Reinstallation on the engine with alignment and final checks.

  • Performance Verification

Post-overhaul monitoring and recording of parameters to validate restored efficiency and reliability

Quality & Assurance

  • OEM-spec tolerances and procedures
  • Certified spares where replacement is required
  • Full inspection and test records provided upon completion
